Problem:
This thirty year old residence was experiencing significant foundation settlement.  In the rear portion of the building, the floors were sloping, drywall cracking, and the windows were sticking.  The foundation was cracked in several areas and pulling away from the structure.    

Engineering Design:
A representative from Northeast Helical uncovered that the house was built upon a stump dump  The solution was to underpin the settling concrete foundation using helical piers, as natural soils (below the stumps and poor soil) consisted of suitable sands and gravel.    

Project Details: 
Manual equipment was utilized to install the helical piers, as to minimize disturbing the neatly landscaped areas around the house.  Several trees were buried directly below the foundation, which had to be removed to allow installations of the underpinning piles.  The helical piers advanced to about 15 to 20 feet below grade.  The project was successfully completed in 3 working days.
