Problem: This forty year old residence was experiencing some structural distress in the rear portion of the house. The masonry foundation was cracking and the floors were sloping down heading to the rear of the structure.
Engineering Design: A representative from Northeast Helical uncovered that the house was built upon a concrete slab without a full foundation. This slab only extended to about eight inches below the outside grade, making it susceptible to seasonal frost heaving. The solution was to create a new concrete foundation, underneath the existing structure, through traditional underpinning methods. This new foundation would extend below the frost line and into suitable load-bearing soils. |
