Foundation Underpinning - Chicopee, MA

Problem:
A new loading dock was planned for the existing Valor One building in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The site grades were to be lowered, exposing the existing foundation to frost heave. The concrete foundation needed to be extended below the seasonal frost line, but conventional underpinning methods would not work.

Solutions:
A licensed professional engineer from Northeast Helical designed an underpinning system consisting of several helical underpinning piles to hold the footing up for the excavation of underpinning pits. The shoring installation took a single day and the redesign produced significant savings for the owner as well.
